Jacek Krawczyk

Jacek   Krawczyk dancer, choreographer, dance teacher. He   graduated from the University of Physical Education in Gdańsk; he was awarded   a certificate of artist-dancer by the Polish Stage Artists Association (ZASP)   and honoured by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Member of   Dance and Ballet Section of ZASP, of FIA – The International Federation of   Actors and EON – The European Network of Independent Artists. In 1987–97 he   taught dynamics and plasticity of movement and dancer/actor of the Wojciech   Misiuro’s Expression Theatre. In 1998, he started artistic collaboration with   Joanna Czajkowska, which marked the beginning of the Sopot Dance Theatre   (since March 2010 Okazjonalny Theatre). As a dancer and choreographer, he   worked with many alternative and institutional theatres, e.g. Witold   Gombrowicz Miejski Theatre in Gdynia (among others choreography for Casanova directed by Jacek Bunsch),   Entertainment Theatre (TR) in Chorzów, Musical Theatre in Gdynia, Nowy   Theatre in Słupsk (stage movement for Dziady   by Adam Mickiewicz) and with Capella Gedanensis, the German Audio Gruppe   theatre, the French Artonik Theatre.

 

In 2008,   he created Infantka for the German   Goerlitz Tanztheater Company. He played Don Jose in a contemporary version of   Carmen choreographed by Jarosław   Stańko at the Festival Sacrum Profanum in Cracow (2006). In 2010, as a   director and choreographer, he created, for the Sopot Dance Theatre, Vitruvian   man. Preludium inspired by the study of Vitruvius and famous drawing of   the Vitruvian Man by Leonardo da Vinci. The performance is a contemporary   study of the human body, the body of a dancer in movement and specific space   and it analyses possibilities of expression under defined conditions.   Katrzyna Antosiak, as well as the choreographer, played in the performance.

 

2012 is a   special year for the founders of the Sopot Dance Theatre: Joanna Czajkowska   (the younger part of the Sopot Dance Theatre’ team) celebrates 15 years of   working a choreographer and Jacek Krawczyk – 25 years of artistic activity.   On this occasion, on 1 May a benefit performance took place in Sopot, not   only with the founders, but also dancers and artists friends with the group.

 

As a   teacher in the field of dance theatre, he worked with Cultural Animation   School, Alternative Theatre School at Żak Club in Gdańsk and Scena Off de   Bicz in Sopot. In 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2010, he received an artistic   scholarship from the Marshal of Pomeranian Province. In 2006, he was   nominated for the Artist of the Year 2005 award in the popularity contest ran   by “Gazeta Wyborcza Trójmiasto”. Laureate   of the Marshal of Pomeranian Province Theatre Award in 2005 – for directing   and choreography of two performances: Quad.Version   6 and Helikopter Tanz   Streichquartett. He received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture   and National Heritage in 2006. In the winter semester of 2006/2007 he taught Dance and Movement Systems in Culture   at the Cultural Studies in Gdańsk. In April 2007, he received a prestigious   badge of „Merit to Polish Culture” from the Ministry of Culture and National   Heritage. In the season 2008/2009, he played the leading role in the third   part of MEN’S DANCE at the Baltic Opera (Tamashi, choreography   by Wojciech Misiuro); in the season 2009/2010 he played a solo part in Rusałka in the Grand Theatre in Łódź.
