Welcome to the Institute of Music and Dance website. The portal was created to fill gaps in information and promotion of the art of dance in Poland (ballet, contemporary dance, folk dance, early dance, anthropology of dance). It consists mainly of interrelated databases which are regularly updated and extended. At this moment these are mainly contemporary dance and ballet, the others are being gradually extended. The website contains the following sections:
People – featuring dancers, choreographers, teachers, dance managers and critics.
Institutions – dedicated to groups, theatres, festivals, associations and foundations.
Education – presenting various forms of dance education which are available in Poland. (available only in Polish)
Texts – containing reprints from the specialist press and internet websites since the 90’s and the portal’s own publications: bios, memoires, theoretical texts and dance event reports. Texts are grouped into the following categories: articles, reviews, reports, own texts and interviews. (available only in Polish, in future we plan to systematically translate selected and current articles).
Bibliography features addresses of monographic dance titles published in Poland, and of articles from magazines, joint publications and internet sources. This section has its own search engine.
The section of performances is being gradually extended by dance performances created in Poland and/or by Polish artists.
In Dance abroad you will find the most important foreign dance institutions (choreographic/dance centres, schools), dance festivals and events. (available only in Polish)
In News you can find the latest dance events (mainly in Poland, but also abroad), brief reviews and recommended articles from the section Texts.
The website TaniecPolska has also Calendar to keep all dance lovers and professionals up-to-date. Calendar is also available in the section Events.
All sections are being developed and will be extended little by little. The site is to help find information about dance in Poland. We invite all groups, artists, institutions and any other interested in contacting us to send information about themselves and their activities.
The site was co-created by: Katarzyna Gardzina-Kubała (ballet), Julia Hoczyk, Witold Mrozek and Aleksander Szymański (bibliography of books).
Currently the site is managed by Julia Hoczyk (editor-in-chief) and Matylda Małecka (editor). The databases of ballet groups and artists are updated by Katarzyna Gardzina-Kubała.
