Klub ŻAK in Gdansk, Poland announces the residency/premiere 2021 contest for a project of contemporary dance performance. The contest aims to support and promote contemporary dance. The contest is addressed to Polish dancers and foreign participants of the Solo Dance Contest organised by Club ŻAK, within the Gdansk Dance Festival. Selected projects will be realised in Club ŻAK from July to August 2021.
The dancers will receive the following resources for the creation of their performances:
- funds for the project (6000 PLN for a duet, and 10.000–20.000 PLN for a performance featuring more than 2 dancers),
- technical assistance during the two days of the general rehearsals (acoustics and lights),
- rehearsal space,
- for two weeks, the dancers will be working under the guidance of a mentor – an esteemed dancer and choreographer.
In 2021, the competition mentors will include Palle Granhøj (Denmark) and Matteo Bittante (Italy). Performances developed within the project will have their premieres on the stage of Club ŻAK.
Palle Granhøj – he is the artistic director and founder of Granhøj Dans company. Dancer, choreographer and creator of the so-called obstruction technic. He developed over thirty dance performances and dance films that were presented in forty-nine countries.
Matteo Bittante – he has worked with fabulous choreographers at the Ballet National de Marseille and the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, and has been teaching at the Accademia Susanna Beltrami since 2006. He is the co-director and resident-choreographer of the National Centre for Dance Production in Milan DANCEHAUSpiù, a co-founder of the artistic association ContART and a person dedicated to audience development, promotion and production of contemporary dance. Since 2012, he works as the artistic director of DanceHaus Company.
