Janusz Orlik

dancer | choreographer

Janusz Orlik is a dancer and choreographer. After graduating from the Turczynowicz Ballet School in Warsaw, he became a student of the Brucknerkonservatorium Linz (AT). During his studies he became a founding member of x.IDA Dance Co. and performed in productions created by Olga Cobos, Peter Mika, Catherine Guérin, Rebekka Murgi, Nicole Caccivio, Charlotte Vincent. Since 2002 Janusz has been a regular member of the Vincent Dance Theatre (GB).

 

For more than a decade Janusz has also been creating his own choreographic works, including Exérèse monobloc (2004, a collaboration with Pia Libicka), thy neighbour as thyself (2006, Solo Project residency), Live on stage (2008), The Rite of Spring (2011, a collaboration with Joel Claesson and Nicholas Keegan), Insight (2013, a collaboration with Joanna Leśnierowska). In 2007 he performed in nothing by towarzystwo gimnastyczne.

 

In 2009 Janusz performed in Happy by Nigel Charnock, in which he was also involved as choreographer’s assistant. In 2010 he joined Ugo Dehaes’s Kwaad Bloed Company (BE), performing in Forces. In 2011 he joined Nigel Charnock + Company (GB) to create Ten Men. In the same year he collaborated on the production of Reconstruction by Joanna Leśnierowska, also performing in the piece. In 2012 he performed in a revival of Horsemeat by Gary Clarke (GB). In 2013 he began a collaboration with Daniel Landau (IL).

 

In 2014 he performed in … (Rooms by the sea) from the series Exercises in Looking by Joanna Leśnierowska and in Unintended Consequences by Sjoerd Vreugdenhil, whose premiere at the Malta Festival in Poznań marked 10 years of the Old Brewery New Dance programme. Janusz’s other works include High heels for the ballet of the Kraków Opera, Alpha for the Contemporary Dance Scene in Poznań, and Adagio for the Musical Theatre in Poznań.

 

As well as performing, Janusz delivers dance workshops in Poland and abroad. He was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of Poland in 2011.
