Dominika Knapik

dancer | choreographer | actress

Dominika   Knapik – dancer,   actor and choreographer. She graduated from the State School of Drama (PWST)   in Cracow. She has a certificate of professional dancer from Polish Stage   Artists Association (ZASP).

She   co-created a Cracovian group Hoplaa with whom she produced dance videos and   performances in 2006 and 2007. She took part in projects of a visual artist   Zorka Wollny (Concert for High Heels   2004; Museum 2006).

In 2007   she won a scholarship from the DanceWeb Europe Programme and Art Stations   Foundation (a solo how do you like me?   presented among other at the Polish Dance Platform in 2008).A   self-referential performance, without any narration or emotional expression,   determined the style of her future works.

In 2008   she founded, together with Wojciech Klimczyk, an artistic group Harakiri   Farmers. Their first production was Keret   which won the competition “Nowe Sytuacje” at the International Theatre   Festival MALTA in Poznań (2008). The group collaborated, among others, Ana   Brzezińska (We are oh so Lucky   presented at the Polish Dance Platform 2010). Their intellectual and   ironic performances of Harakiri are marked by a “discursive” attitude towards   dance – its presence in the context of other modes of expression, originating   from various fields of art, politics or mass culture in its broad sense.

She   co-founded, with Wojciech Klimczyk, MINUS 20 Collective (they created,   together with David Chazman and Kenneth Flak, The Fork), and the brand new Association of Arts Initiatives   SZTRUKS.

At the   same time, she danced in nic, a   performance of Towarzystwo Gimnastyczne (2008). In 2009 she played, among   others, in Całopalenie (Das letzte Feuer) directed by I.   Gańczarczyk. She received a scholarship ArtsLink 2009 (Dance New Amsterdam,   NY). In 2010 she took part in Le Sacre of Dada von Bzdülöw Theatre. In   2011 she won a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage   and created, together with Wojciech Klimczyk, Moscow. In 2011 she directed Optimist’s   Testament in a Cracovian theatre Łaźnia Nowa where she performed and   created choreography. In the same year, she was a choreographer and dancer in   Not I directed by Iga Gańczarczyk   which won the main prize of OFF COMPETITION at the 32th Review of Stage Songs   in Wrocław.

She   has regularly collaborated with drama theatres in Poland as a choreographer   (among other with Radek Rychcik: Versus and Fragmenty dyskursu   miłosnego (A Lover's Discourse: Fragments), Babel directed by Maja   Kleczewska, W małym dworku and Opowieści zimowe directed by Iga   Gańczarczyk, Filozofia w buduarze directed by Bogdana Hussakowski, Bullerbyn.   How children created a homemade forest and what grew out of it directed   by Anna Smolar).

She played   in Katatonia directed by Jacek   Nagłowski (Grand Prix of the independent cinema competition at the Gdynia   Film Festival). Autor of a dance film There.
