dr hab. Aleksandra Dziurosz, prof. UMFC is the Deputy Director at the Institute of Music and Dance. A dancer, choreographer, and teacher of contemporary dance, stage movement and improvisation, she holds a postdoctoral degree in dance and currently works as associate professor at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She is the founder and director of the Warsaw Dance Theatre, director of the Warsaw Dance Days / International Contemporary Dance Festival, and the artistic director of the Chopin University Dance Company. She is also the author and organiser of the Warsaw Dance Centre programme, and the co-author and co-organiser of the Warsaw Dance Platform 2014-2016 (while also supervising its programme in 2015).
Aleksandra Dziurosz is a graduate of the Ludomir Różycki Ballet School in Bytom (1999), and Ballet Pedagogy Studies at the Academy of Music in Warsaw ((with hons, 2003). She also completed Postgraduate Studies in Dance Theory at the Academy of Music in Warsaw (2007). As a dancer, dance pedagogue, and choreographer, she has performed, taught, and presented her pieces in Japan, Spain, Puerto Rico, China, the USA, Greece, Switzerland, Finland, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Lithuania, Ukraine, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Poland, among others. She has choreographed dance performances and stage choreographies for theatre and opera pieces, among others at the Polish Dance Theatre, Kielce Dance Theatre, Prague Chamber Ballet (Czech Republic), United Movement (Switzerland), Conservatorio Profesional de Danza in Seville (Spain), Warsaw Chamber Opera, Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw, and the Jewish Theatre in Warsaw. A jury member on a number of Polish and international choreography and dance competitions, she is a member of the Scientific Board at the Institute of Choreology in Poznań, the Polish Association of Stage Artists, the Polish Society of Authors and Composers (ZAiKS), the Dance Commission at the Office for Culture of the Capital City of Warsaw, the Open Forum of Dance Art Communities, and the deputy director of the Polish Choreology Forum. She is also the co-founder of the STREFA OTWARTA Association, of which she was a member until 2018.
Aleksandra Dziurosz is the recipient of scholarships from the Ballet Foundation in Szczecin (2001) and the Pokusów Foundation in Cracow (2002, 2003). She won the choreographic Award of the Polish Dance Theatre Director – Ewa Wycichowska (2005). A laureate of the President of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music Award (second degree, 2012), she is a two-time recipient of the twice won the scholarship of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (2012, 2017), a two-time laureate of the Scholarship for Creators (2006, 2016), and the recipient of “The Young Poland” scholarship (2012). A two-time laureate of the scholarship of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education for young scholars, she also received a scholarship of the Rectors’ Conference of the Swiss Universities, awarded as part of the SCIEX – Scientific Exchange Programme NMS.CH 2014-2015. In January 2009, she won the first choreographic award for the best solo performance during the 10th International Contemporary Dance Festival Solo/Duo Dance Festival in Budapest.
